Through this co-operation, as of 1st March, all Papantoniou Supermarkets’ stores and the distribution centre operate using green energy. It is worth noting that they are the first supermarkets in Cyprus that have opted for renewable energy sources in an effort to reduce their environmental footprint.
As of 1st January 2021, Bioland Energy is the first electricity company that meets all the requirements set by the transitory regulation in the electricity market and the first electricity supplier in Cyprus following EAC, essentially launching the competition for the electricity market. The company’s energy is derived exclusively from green energy generated by photovoltaic parks, thus contributing to the protection of the environment through zero emissions of greenhouse gases.
Papantoniou Supermarkets, having environmental protection as one of their leading moral principles, were compelled to proceed with such a partnership, always aiming to be a ‘positive force’ for the environment, society and our country, as well as reciprocate the trusting relationship that has been built up over the years with consumers. This is yet another initiative by Papantoniou Supermarkets for protection of the environment. All facilities follow standard recycling procedures and minimise water use and food waste, as well as encouraging less use of plastic bags. Choosing to use energy from renewable sources is a further step in this direction and in commitment to environmental protection.
